Austria

Austria I wanted Spring Break to be a chance to explore more of Europe. I scouted the internet for cheap flights in order for me to go. I found great deals - for Airbnb and flights - for me to stay out for an entire week! I decided to travel to Austria, somewhere I never thought of going. Paris - a place that I've been very anxious to travel to. Lastly, Barcelona - it was a cheap ticket to get to and get back to Florence. It was also one of my favorite places that I visited when I went to "Teatro Liceu" earlier in the month. At this point, my Italian was becoming better, and all I wanted to do was speak in Italian to everybody. I had no idea what there was for me to see in Austria, until I realized that Mozart, a very famous composer, lived in Austria! When I arrived to the airport in Vienna, I felt very comfortable, but I was very lost as to how to get to my Airbnb. Thankfully google was at my side. I eventually went up to a gentleman who was selling train tickets...

March 1, 2, 3 I couldn't believe. I was actually on my way to Barcelona, Spain. I have been curious as to how the Spaniards are for the longest time. My curiosity came from me speaking Spanish. This is the land where the origins of Spanish were, so I was extremely excited to travel. This was also an exciting weekend because I was going to watch Rodelinda, an opera by George Frideric Handel at "Gran Teatre del Liceu." I decided to go watch this opera because of a Cuban-American soprano, Lissette Oropresa, was going to perform and I love her voice so much. This was also my first time traveling by myself. I hopped on the train from Santa Maria Novella in Florence towards the Bologna train station. I didn't realize that when they say that there are fast trains, they were not kidding around! We were going 300 km/h which is about 200 mph! When I arrived at airport, I normally would go to check-in but I already had my boarding pass, so I just went inside the airport! After...

Pisa / Lucca Trip

Image
Feb 22 Today we went to the famous city of Pisa, where the leaning tower of Pisa resides. Then I found out that there were so many more things to find out about the city, other than the leaning tower. When we first arrived, I was expecting the tower to be way bigger and more leaned over because of all the pictures. It was still an experience to stand before such an amazing building. Some of us were curious to know if we could go up the tower, but we found out that you have to book an appointment to go up the tower, as it is regulated for safety purposes. Apparently at one point it was more leaned over, but the ground underneath the building was starting to make the building to sink. They eventually figured out how to make it stay more solid and leaned over. Most people  were trying to take the famous pose with the building, including myself but I did not do as well. After witnessing the building, we went over to the superior school in the city (Scuola Normale), a university ...

Bagno Vignoni / Montalcino Trip!

Image
February 8th, 2019 "Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino are beautiful, you're going to love it" is one of the first things I heard when traveling to Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino. I had absolutely no idea what either of those places were. I usually read up about where I'm going and what there is to do. On our way to Bagno Vignoni from my window on the bus Bagno Vignoni is a small village outside of Florence about 2 hours out. What makes this place so special are the original sources of water that come out of a subterranean aquifer from a volcano, so the entire underground is super warm. Some of those thermal waters were used as a sort of spa by people of important stature such as: Pope Pius II, Saint Catherine of Siena, Lorenzo the Magnificent, and many others. One of the baths in Bagno Vignoni  We first stopped to get a cappuccino and a small pastry all together as a breakfast. Then we were told about the baths and how they were used back in the day. In th...
